Doesn't really matter what occupation the nut case had before he went "hot range" in the school (or any other GFZ for that matter). What matters is this: once that starts, how long will it take to stop him?
Except for the assassination attempt on that (Arizona?) congresswoman, every mass shooting since the 1950's has been in a GFZ. (The congresswoman was attacked in the parking lot of a grocery store, both of which were areas where a weapon was allowed.)
There are really just two possibilities. First, schools can remain GFZs as they are now. In that case, the shooter gets a free ride for as long as it takes for an armed responder to (a) be informed that there is a situation, (b) travel from his current location to a place where he can use his weapon, (c) deploy his weapon and use it.
Second, we could BAN GFZs (entirely or at least for the schools). Make GFZ extinct as a concept. Allow armed LACs to carry anywhere they go. In that case, the shooter gets the same free ride
. The difference is that (a) a nearby armed LAC will hear the gunfire and know immediately that there is a situation, (b) he will already be at (or very close to) a place where he can use his weapon, and (c) he can deploy his weapon and use it immediately.
In the first case, the shooter gets 10-20 minutes of free live fire practice on live targets. In the second case he gets perhaps that many seconds.
So I ask all the anti-gun liberals the question they always ask us: "If just one life could be saved, wouldn't you be willing to give up your political agenda for that purpose?"
