Neighbor sees 60 year old attacked and grabs his gun instead of his phone!

Quote:
When a neighbor saw what was happening he jumped to action, but instead of grabbing his phone to call police, he grabbed his firearm knowing second may count. The neighbor yelled at the attackers to stop their assault on the elderly victim, and when they ignored his demand he fired at the main attacker striking him in the chest causing the men to flee.

That's the kind of neighbor poor Kitty Genovese need back in 1964.

This is why I keep my scoped carbine loaded at all times.

I would have rang the police and intervened if I had to, but not with a firearm unless they were armed. He could end up getting in trouble himself it could have being a domestic situation.

Three people beating up a senior citizen is a domestic situation? Really?

Because nobody has ever been beaten to death.

Families would never get into a fight and start throwing punches. ? Before you know it they could be accusing you of murder. My point be careful what you get involved in it could come back to bite you. Just my opinion , if you would do the same in a similar situation go for it. I thought that in some states you had to be in fear for your life before you used lethal force am I wrong. ?

I can not speak for all 50 states. But I do know about half of them have self defense and "Defense of Another" laws. And the police officer in the article is quoted as saying that if everything is as it appears there would be no charges filed.

Would it not be responsible to point that in some states you could end up in trouble for taking that type of action. As well as the usual he deserves a medal comments.

Them trying to beat you to death, and someone else could be seen differently by the law. As I said anyone that would take the same action , go for it.

There are also civil lawsuits that could cost a lot of money win or lose.

On the other hand you could stand back and do nothing until the victim is killed, because you feared you might get in trouble. Good luck looking at yourself in the mirror every morning.
