I have a hard time believing that a gun hitting the floor will just go off. More plausible that he had his hand in his pocket and put his finger on the trigger
glad nobody was seriously hurt

The weapon could have been loaded with the hammer cocked back with a bad sear. Okay, your explanation is more believable.

hypothetically - lets say for arguments sake the gun did not fall out of his pocket and it can be concluded their was no possible way for it to discharge without pulling the trigger. Than his story is a lie and he opens himself up to even more scrutiny and possible more criminal charges and or losing his carry permit.
I never understood why adults would make up some fantabulous story to try and explain away an accident. We all make mistakes, s hit happens, own up to it and learn from it, why waste time concocting some implausible story?
I wonder if they gave him ice cream at the hospital?
