I'm all for busting corrupt cops--which unfortunately seems to mean a majority of officers in Mexico. Nail the SOB's, especially the corrupt commanders.

But if I were driving down a main highway and a motley group of civilians armed with all kinds of assorted weapons tried to get me to stop, I'd think it would be stupid to do so and would want to keep moving. And it sounds like I just might be shot by these guys. I believe the term is "collateral damage", and the risk of it is much greater with people who aren't trained or organized effectively.

This is not the first time that has happened down there, I saw a news article about something similar a few months back. Seems those people are getting sick of the gangs and the corrupt "officials" taking over and running the show down there. When it gets broken down to that point, I guess you have to take matters into your own hands. I'm not so sure we're not far from that here really.

I remember that story and since then the Federales have swooped in and disarmed that village. Seems the local drug lords did not like getting kicked out.

People say "It can't happen here", but look at Mexico. The state disarms the populace, then fails to protect the populace, populace strikes back against criminals, and the state cracks down on the populace again.

Think it would play out any different here?

Well, in the example I gave I mean when the state disarms. If they were successful in rounding up most of the guns (notice how somehow they managed to still get guns in Mexico) that the State utterly failed to protect the populace.

Yet when people tried to defend themselves, what happened? Did the State come in and help them?

Nope.

Same thing would happen here.

I find it odd that the same people who believe all corporations are evil somehow think government is benevolent.

I wonder if Jose Biden is going to use this in his next shotgun and hunting rifle endorsement?
