Some criminals are smart enough to figure it out for themselves "People are getting armed now. Maybe I need to find another place to get my drug money."...

But most aren't. They need a concrete example. "Dang, Joey got whacked when he tried to break into that old ladies house. Maybe I need to find another place to get my drug money."
The media (well, most liberals) don't make the distinction between a justifiable shooting (say, in defense of oneself in one's home) and a gang banger shooting someone. All they see is death. And when they see gun related death, all they infer is crime - because, they lack the ability to use logical reasoning.

I don't think they lack the ability at all. I think they lack the incentive. They have an agenda, and that agenda is to convince us that firearms are the tools of the devil. How can they do that if a firearm is the only thing that saved granny's life?

Using arbitrary numbers, how can they take 50 firearm deaths with 30 of them being self defense or LEO actions and convince the world that guns are used for evil means? They can't, so they leave out the self defense and LEO parts. This is going to sound wrong, but I'm just grateful they are looking at guns. If they took on a real killer we would all be walking or riding horses.

In addition to being a psychological deterrent, the use of firearms to put robbers, home invaders, rapists, etc, in their rightful place, it does much to reduce the criminal population, which also helps reduce repeat acts of crime.
