Awesome idea! As long as there is training involved I cant imagine a better way of turning a crappy, crime infested neighborhood into a nice one.

A worthy cause, indeed! I'd hope the neighborhood thugs won't show up for the freebies. But then, they'll probably find out who the recipients are, then steal the guns when the owners are not home.

It seems like way back in American history before the Socialist we had something like that? Yes, it was called an armed militia of freemen.

I like it. I wish the NRA would do something like this on a large scale before the gun grabbers write new legislation making it illegal.

Trouble is, the NRA is in a situation where they have to spend all their money trying to deal with the enemies of the state in DC

Fair point. Maybe someday in the future they will be able to.

Although, honestly, if every NRA member donated $20 (or less?!) for the cause, the NRA could do it. I would do donate for that, if I knew the cash was ear mocked for this purpose.

The article mentions the idea that more guns may mean more gun deaths rather than less crime. I think they're taking a very short term view. Those early gun deaths (criminals on the receiving end) become the word-of-mouth among other criminals that leads to deterrence.

Some criminals are smart enough to figure it out for themselves "People are getting armed now. Maybe I need to find another place to get my drug money."...

But most aren't. They need a concrete example. "Dang, Joey got whacked when he tried to break into that old ladies house. Maybe I need to find another place to get my drug money."
