Yes, the M4 used by The Governor to kill the Guardsman was missing its rear sight. There's a clear shot of it in the Season 3 link for the show at imfdb.net.

The Russian HMGs at the CDC were intended to be standins for M2s, since Hollywood armorys tend to have a tough time getting actual M2s .
I get the recoil part, but they did use blanks in some filming. Even I they couldn't use blanks, they could've at least made a half ass attempt to make the guns MOVE when they shoot. They remain perfectly still as they empty a magazine into an undead group.

i dont think it matters all that much since zombies arent the real monsters... the guns in movies are just props and made for tv doesnt have the budget of silver screen movies. its done well enough for tv.

They need to include some 22lr action in head shooting zombies.

Not the walking dead but on other zombie movies I love how its based in America and everyone has a fully auto rifle.

I'm guessing it's harder to add CGI gun blasts to moving firearms than still ones.

I believe a lot of the weapons used for close-range shooting in Hollywood are also inert props with electronic special effects systems. Gas guns that fire capsules and such. You can't fire blanks at zombie extras from 3' away without cooking their eyeballs, IIRC. Hence, the inert prop gas guns or what have you.

Which is more unrealistic?

Guns with no recoil or the dead coming back to life?

It's fiction, enjoy it.

I agree. I don’t think the ‘recoil less’ guns are realistic, and the zombies aren't like the account executives I had my suspicions about either. For one thing they dressed better, usually. (The Working Dead?)
