That's why I would use a regular arrow exploding arrows would be fun to use but would bring to much attention to ones self in an end of the world setting

I was amazed to learn there is actually a show called, "Talking Dead" where they discuss the show. Never watched it but at least you can try to educate them on proper gun handling.

Tech dept just got lazy. Difficult to simulate recoil for actors who may never have fired a gun.

They actually showed some behind the scenes stuff on commercials, before, and one of them was the props guy. They did use blanks in the part it showed them filming, and you can see recoil in that part of the episode. Later on in the series, they quit recoil altogether. Most people who have noticed it, noticed it in the part where they clear the prison yard.

If you're looking for flaws, I don't remember the episode however it was when the small town group went and wiped out the military convoy towards the end there is a guy running away. The head of the small town grabs an AR type weapon and shoots him in the back as he's running away. If you look closely it doesn't appear to have a rear sight on the gun.

I think it's safe to say that it's impossible for Hollywood to exactly replicate firearms physics. Actors cannot "act" felt recoil, mostly because recoil is a production of an item being held, not of one's body. You can try to fake your body's reaction to recoil, but it always comes off as looking fake.

Yes, the M4 used by The Governor to kill the Guardsman was missing its rear sight. There's a clear shot of it in the Season 3 link for the show at imfdb.net.

The Russian HMGs at the CDC were intended to be standins for M2s, since Hollywood armorys tend to have a tough time getting actual M2s .
