Attack Victim Had a Hand on His Gun, But He Didn't Shoot
Hard call or no?

LUTZ | Cameron Mohammed stood there in the Walmart parking lot, blood spouting from his head and his neck, his hand on his gun, while he watched the man who had just shot him dash into the night.......I don't know. I just couldn't do it," Mohammed said, recovering at his Tampa home two days after the attack. "I couldn't blow this guy away for something he could change later in life. I'm not going to decide this man's fate."

Absolutely a hard call. not so sure I would have been as forgiving.
but, then again, the attack was clearly over, and the assailant was running away. if there was video of the victim shooting at a man who's running away, it might be hard to argue that it was self defense, an over zealous DA could argue that as soon as the perp turned to run away, it turned from a self defense situation to a revenge/vigilante situation.
I don't know that I agree with such logic, but I can see how someone could make that conclusion.

That is a tough call. The thing that scared me tho is what if this Quinnel guy had a real gun? Cameron probably wouldn't be alive to tell the story

With the risks that can be involved with carrying a firearm around, why do it, when your not prepared to use it?.
I know he was being shot at by an air pistol but they are capable of serious injury and death, he could have let some shots off at his feet atleast!. He must have had time to fire back before the guy ran away when he got 20 shots off...
Easy for us to say though.

He made the call not to kill.. His choice, we don't really know how we would react until it happens, I think I would have stopped the threat, but...I'm sure taking a life would not be easy to live with, but when it comes down to you or him seconds to decide.. I hope I never have to be put to the test..

I would not shoot at someone that is running away. However, if he is still shooting when I draw, my gun would go bang.

I wouldn't be surprised if we haven't seen the last of Daniel Quinnell. That is exactly the kind of nut that needs to be getting serious mental health treatment before he offs numerous people in a church, school, mall, etc. Bet we don't see Diane, Charles, Bloomberg or any of the other morons come out for registration of pellet guns.
Cameron is the right kind of person to have a CHL. Not sure I would have taken a couple of rounds like that, but without the report of a firearm, I too might have not retaliated. Really hard to say without being there.

Dont be so sure. Air rifles can be deadly and are regulated in England. They were even used as military weapons and one was carried by the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Deadly force is a huge choice. It is rarely necessary. Even when it is, some simply cannot. It is their life. Their choice.

When I was a teen me and some friends were robbed, one of my friends was shot in the incident. The entire thing lasted under 20 seconds and I don't know that I would have ever had an opportunity to draw. That one incident is one of my reasons for questioning if I should carry. I know that isn't the only type of incident, but once you are staring at a gun, going for your own may be a little late, my opinion, the guy who draws first wins... On the other hand, I was very calm and had my wits during and after which also makes me think I am a good candidate to carry. Point is is when SHTF it happens fast and none of us know how we will react until it is over and your standing there asking yourself if it really just happened...
