Default M1A/M-14 dissasembly

Hey guys!
I have had my m1a for a few years. Recently upon trying to clean it, I was unable to get the upper receiver out of the stock. I undid the trigger group latch but the top a bottom will not separate. I tired as hard a I could without breaking anything. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks a lot
Jeff

If you have a Match grade it's in tight. Turn it over, and holding the receiver and barrel tap the end of the stock at the butt plate on a solid but padded surface.

I have a match grade M1A and this is exactly the method I use. It works very well for safely removing the stock from the metal. I fold up a towel and place it on a counter. While holding the rifle upside down and holding the action, I tap the stock on the towel. It works every time.
