Diesel in a steel trash can followed by a brush down the bore and a rag everywhere else. Only METAL parts should get diesel treatment. What gun are you doing it on?

A parts washer with brand new cleaning fluid, works great, but be sure to oil everything ASAP or you will get flash rust.

Portable steam cleaner like the "Shark" works pretty good. Also putting them in a black trash bag, and laying it out in the Texas summer sun works pretty good as well. :)

I'm looking to get a Saiga 762 or a Yugo and I know they come caked in that stuff and I wanna be prepared.

I get good results from WD40. It might take a couple applications but it gets the job done without stripping the finish.

JPyle did this for his Mosin but cosmo is cosmo, same technique applies...
