Shield 9 or 40

I have a full size M&P in 9mm. Would like to get a shield for cc. I do not have any guns in 40 cal? Which shield cal would you recommend?

I have the Shield in 9mm and that's what I'll suggest. Mainly because I'm not a fan of .40 S&W. I never intend to own a gun chambered for it.

I'm with Polygon on the .40 caliber. Unless they make the Shield in .45 the 9mm is the one I would buy.

I have one in .40, recoil isn't bad, my GF handles it fine. I already have a 9mm, 40 ammo was always easy to find, even when 9mm was non-existent.

I have a shield in 9mm and love it. I used to carry a glock 23 (.40) and the only complaint I had while shooting is that the 40 is a snappy round. I shot my buddies shield 40 and it does have more snap to it than the 9mm. Highly recommend the 9mm, quick follow up shots and target acquisition which is what you want in a cc. And 9 ammo is cheaper!!

I would get the 9mm since you already have that caliber.

A few years ago I made a choice to limit my handgun ammo to 9mm, .38spl, .357mag and .45acp.

Oh and .22lr.

I have a shield 40 and love it. I already have a m&p9c so I figured I'd get the shield in .40. It is easy to shoot,my wife and I are both accurate with it. It has a much better trigger than my 9c. If I can't find. 9mm ammo, .40 is almost always available. I've shot about 500 rounds through mine with zero problems. I carry it daily and love it .

If 9mm wasn't still hard to find, this would not be difficult, but it seems I find 40cal all the time. I'd really like to only keep 9mm & 45 in inventory.
I agree too bad there isn't a 45 shield. And a 1911 is still in the distant future.

Last box of 9mm I paid $20 for a box of solids. My son is buying 45 at $25! I think the 40 is actually cheaper than the 9mm right now.

For me, it was a choice between capacity or power. In self defense situations where adrenaline runs high and you may be facing multiple attackers, I tend to choose capacity over power...hence my choice of 9mm over 40S&W....and why I do not use a .45 for carry or home defense/night stand gun.
