The only other way I've heard was to use nail polish and to use Acatone free nail polish remover so it doesn't hurt the finish on you slide.

You can also melt a crayon and rub it into the etching

Yeah I got the idea from the hk ar-15. I thought it looked real good. Plus the whole "you see red, it means dead". Fits pretty well
