thickness shield is thinner and not as long as the compact. less rounds in the shield. the shield is a very good summer time carry gun. it disappears when you put it on. very light.

Sweet, thanks for the info. I guess the shield to the M&Pc is what the glock 23 is to the 27 in a way!!

In my experience, the shield is to the M&P9c what a Glock 27 is to an LC9.

M&p9cs are smaller than the 23

The 9c holds more rounds than the shield. Comes with a 12 round mag and also works with full size m&p9 17 round mags. The shield comes with an 8 round mag.

The compact also comes with interchangeable gip panels to fit to your hand. The shield does not.

You can also get the compact w/o external safety.

I went with the compact over the shield. Fit me better and I do not care for external safety on a striker fired handgun.

I also got on sale earlier this year for less than the shield.

Here is a good review of a Shield, with several photos comparing it to the 9C at the bottom. The Shield is very thin, and therefore very easy to conceal, especially IWB.

Defense Review: S&W Shield
