This law-abiding guy is threatened with years in jail because he got lost and just forgot his short-barreled gun was in the console.

At the same time, this POS goes free:

This has to stop.

Although he didn't mean to he still broke a law. You can't just let people off because it was a "mistake" and they "seemed nice"

Agreed, works the same way on the lakes that border Canada. Drift across while carrying and you're in for it if their DNR decide to check for Canadian fishing licenses. There's nothing over there I need. The arrogant, Euro wannabe attitude, (in Eastern Canada at least), I encountered there in the past was enough for a lifetime.

Don't we have similar here in the US? Here in the state of GA I'm allowed to carry a firearm on my body while on my property, or vehicle I'm traveling in with the owners permission if not my vehicle. All without a concealed carry permit. I travel to SC and I now must remove the weapon from my body, separate the ammo from the gun and preferably have them in separate compartments of the vehicle. If not then I face fines, removal of my firearm and possible, likely, arrest. I'm sure other states have the same issue. There are many roads that freely meander from one state to another without much notice. Some will change speed limits at the border just to let you know something changed, speed trap. Have fun in NJ without a NJ permit if you are out of state.
