What are your thoughts.

I am looking at a ruger gp100 with a 6"barrel. I will probably shoot 38s out if it for a while because it's my first handgun. Is it a good gun? Pros? Cons? Other guns? Thanks

Great gun. If you're not worried about size I'd recommend the highway patrolman.

It's a great gun from all reviews I've heard of it. I've shoot a rugger revolver, not sure if it was the gp 100 or sp 101. Shot great, felt great, hit what I was aiming at.

I personally prefer the classic styling of Smith and Wesson revolvers though.

the Ruger GP100 is a fine revolver and yes there are better pistols, but you would probably pay more to find the difference. just recently i put one in layaway for my wife, 4" stainless steel model with the rubber Hogue type grips. my wife has been wanting another 357 revolver for a while and for the past several months i have been looking at this one and last weekend i finally went ahead and put it in layaway for her anniverisary present.

other good choices in revolvers would be Smith & Wesson, Charter Arms use to be good, not for sure now, might do some checking on them. Rossi might be worth checking out also.

I'd assume it was the gp 100. The sp 101 is a snubby and kicks like a mule with .357.

the GP100 is a full sized revolver and the SP101 is a scaled down version of the GP100 i believe, but not 100% sure about that.

Yep. It's not bad with .38 but if you put a box of .357 through it your hand is junk the next day. When I get a chance I'm changing out the grips. Should help.
