There doesn't seem to be enough metal in that cylinder for it to be a "real" pistol. Maybe it is some oooooold timey cap gun?

Or a cap gun. Looks a sort of like a Mattel toy pistol that was popular back in the 1950's. I have an old Mattel Fanner "Shootin' Shell" single action that is actually realistic enough to fool a lot of people that it is a real gun. It fooled my mom for years. I think they made a Mattel Chief's Special revolver too which would look a lot like the one pictured.

Yep..........1950's. In the dirt huh? The long ago kid who owned it was probably pissed he didn't get the cowboy western shooter for killin injuns seeing as it was the 50's...

Thanks everyone for your help
I can't help but feel depressed with the let down that it was what I was hoping it wasn't
If it had any value I would sell it and by a 22 handgun or my first shotgun (mossberg 500 field in 12ga)

Its only a letdown if you let it be so. I have some "worthless" guns including toy guns that are still neat to own. Keep your eyes open and someday you might run across a great deal. When you least expect it.
