Clear pictures of any markings and an overall shot of the revolver would be very helpful.

Uh, J-frame. .38 Spl was the most common caliber. Pics are essential.

Looks very similar to a model 10 to me, I may be wrong as I don't have my Gun Digest close at hand right now.

Pop the cylinder out and look on the frame right below where the barrel starts, the model number should be there.

If you open the cylinder, on the front strap of the frame, there will be some numbers. That may help further. However, a pre Model 10 won't have a model number in there.

It does have a pinned barrel. Are the charging holes at the rear of the cylinder recessed or beveled a bit?

I'm looking at my snubbie Model 36. It really looks very much the same, except mine isn't P&R'd.

Crossfire, open the cylinder and inside the frame. If it's a 36, there will be numbers in there.

That is a J-frame (5 shot). Model 36 most likely. The location of the flutes on the cylinder are different on the model 10 (K-frame, 6 shot).

Yours is in about average condition (if the photos are accurate). The 3" barrel is less common than the normal 2".
