What Model & When Made .32 S&W

This is a revolver my sister has that had belonged to her deceased husband. It needs a cleaning, but otherwise appears to be in pretty good shape.

This is really a nice revolver. Any info I could pass on to my sister would be much appreciated: age, model #, general value, etc. Thanks a bunch. TB

I THINK that is a S&W 32-20 Military and Police model. They predate the numbering of models- went out of production in 1940. Grandaddy of the Model 10. They were sometimes informally called the Winchester Model, in reference to the caliber- .32 Winchester Centerfire- AKA the .32-20. That is NOT .32 S&W- it drives a 110 gr bullet at a respectable velocity, and was carried by a lot of police officers at one time.

32-20 revolvers are some of the loudest guns I have ever shot. Even though its not much of a performer, they sure do make noise.

It is a blast to shoot. I found a couple boxes of [expensive] ammo at a table at a local used gun show. It is a 1913 production 2cd model and does not have the stronger cylinder of the later models, thus it requires the use of the lower pressure cartridges from those used in the 32-20 rifle and hand eject 3ed model change where the cylinders were heat treated to withstand higher pressures (1917 on iirc). It is very accurate, mild recoil and just a really neat gun. Maybe someday I will get some dies and roll my own so I can shoot it more often without breaking the bank.

Remington still makes the 32-20, but the pressures are too high to use in this pistol. :D
