Default Wanting Value on Old S&W

I inherited an old Smith & Wesson .38 CTG with 5 screws on the face plate which I've read indicted it is pre-WWII. The Model # is V 245386 and has U.S. Navy marked on the top just above the revolving chamber.. Any help would be appreciated... Thanks, JD

IIRC (and am not THE S&W historian) the V prefix indicated a Victory model. Got a lanyard loop on the butt? Or a hole where the lanyard loop used to be?

BTW, these were made in 38 S&W (as in .38 S&W CTG) and also in .38 Special. They are NOT the same cartridge.

Thanks for the response... It still has a lanyard loop on the butt.
