Having just recently chosen a GP100 over an S&W 686+, I'd say the Ruger is a good decision. Just as a heads up, you might want to read thru the thread I started recently about my GP where I had some issues with it "freezing" up on me. Good news is it seems to be fine now, but it definitely was frustrating for a short time.

Ruger for sure - buy one in blue and one in stainless - I did!

Nice choice Your Ruger will last you a life time. My first Ruger from 1957 Till the present. I still have them all and shoot them. Best regards Dick

Also, most states have a minimum barrel length for handgun hunting. Six inch minimum barrel length is common.

Therefore, you need a 7.5 or 8 inch for hunting and a 4 inch for .... just because you wanted it.
