Taurus Model 82 and 82S

Just a quick question from the latest new kid on the block. What is the difference between a Taurus Model 82 and a Model 82S? They look identical to me, and my dealer said that he honestly didn't know what difference there was. Thanks.

Taurus makes the 82B4 and the 82SS4.The 82B4 is a blued finish as where the 82SS4 is a stainless steel finish.I assume that is what you meant by S.Both are +P rated for .38spl.+P.

No, this one is blued (not the stainless) but the paperwork indicates that it's a Model 82S (not "SS").

I been surfin and surfin and the only thing I have found that it might be is an article in a different language titled Taurus Model 82s "Revolver calibre 38SP +P Special Police Municipale / TAR."So maybe it is some sort of Brazilian service revolver version.Model 82S,Model 82 Service?Probably marketed to be used in Brazil and not intended to be one of the guns Taurus ships to Miami, maybe? http://www.tecmagex.com/2002/fr/taurus/revolvers_taurus/taurus_82s.htm

One other thing about this Model 82S which may or may not be odd. The serial number starts with the prefix "AX". Is that a normal part of Taurus's numbering format?

I have no Idea.I have had 3 taurus revolvers and they started with "BR","CT",and"CW".Have you been to the Taurus website yet? They have an area where you can search your serial number in thier database. http://www.taurususa.com/find-model.cfm

I took your suggestion and checked the serial number against that link. It indicates a Model 82 (not 82S, though), blue, 4" barrel, made in 2008. Maybe the 82S on my paperwork was a misprint or maybe they stuck a "service" model in the wrong pile. Thanks for your help, my friend.

Well,2008 isn't that old.I thought maybe it was an older model or something. The thing I noticed on all the 82s pictures I came across was that they all had a loop on the grip, like some countries' police use.If you got a loop or loop attachment it probably is an 82s,if it doesn't,it is probably just an 82 with a misprint.

if you can find a model 605 you may consider that also.. it is chambered for .357 mag but you could load it with .38 or .38 +p's and you would have a little more versatility in power....just my 2cents
