I owned a pt-940 five years ago probably. In the short period of time that I kept it, every time I would shoot it I had issues. FTE's, light strikes, and mag issues. Sold it to my cousin so he could deal with it. I had better luck with kel-tecs. More or less same price range, made in the US, lifetime warranty, great customer service. I have since moved on from the KT's as well though.

I don't think there is a cult of hate for Taurus. It is true that a third world company product gets more scrutiny and a higher degree of suspicion. So every Taurus flaw gets magnified in the context of "cheap imports". Taurus definitely does not get a pass for its brand name. There is also a double standard even for the imports: a lot is forgiven to some east European badass hardware. In the end it's up to Taurus to gain more trust with the American gun owners.

So far I only have one taurus and its a pr1911. I've had it for almost a year now and I have had zero problems. I couldn't be happier with the purchase !

TWW, as you know i currently own a Tracker 44 Magnum. i traded for it a couple of years ago. it's first choice of pistols that i carry with me in the woods. it's classed as a medium framed and only holds 5 rounds, so it carries well. it has the ported 4" barrel, so recoil isn't bad either and it's pretty danged accurate.

this is not my first Taurus pistol and have had several others in the past. fortuantely i have never have had a problem with any that i have owned, but have heard of others having problems with revolvers and semi-auto pistols made by Taurus. any company that mass produces huge quatities of an item, can have some that slip through that should never have left the factory. Taurus is not any different.

i don't hate Taurus, but i do feel they could step up their game if they would put a little more concentration and effort in their QC department. that's just an observation and opinion of mine. they have some good sound designs of revolvers and pistols though.

in you own words, haters are gonna hate!

I had a model 65 .357 and had no issues with it, it worked just fine, very comparable to my SW model 10 M&P. I ended up selling it but not for any negative reason.

I like their revolvers.I have a 85 Ultralite .38spl revolver and works great.I don't really care much for their semi-autos with the big exception of the PT-92 F Beretta clone.I shot my friend PT-92 F and it is a awesome gun.I may sell the Ultralite and use the money towards a S&W revolver.

I've had friends who had the Beretta/Brazillian 9mm copy, and another who had the clone of a Smith and wesson 357 and both seemed to like them. Then I bought a brand new Taurus 22 revolver which absolutely sucked. You couldn't shoot it more than 20 times or so before your thumb was raw from trying to cock the hammer back to shoot single action. Then the trigger pull was so bad, you were lucky if you could even hit consistently close to anything. I paid only about 150 dollars for the 300 dollar gun, but it wasn't even worth 50 dollars to me. I sold it in a hurry and have since boughten a real 22 revolver. They may make better other guns, but if they put out crap like mine was, the I wouldn't waste my own time looking at anything else they make. JMHO

That is a big step up Anna. I got rid of my M85 Ultralite and bought a real J-frame. Anyone that thinks a Taurus is similar to a Smith & Wesson hasn't the slightest idea of what they are talking about!
