FWIW..

I've killed countless rattlers here in AZ and New Mexico. When it comes to pistol snake shot loads the 22lr doesn't impress me much ie. Not as effective as I like. However the 38 snake shot load is plenty ginsu potent.

I load the Speer caps with #9 shot and power them with HP-38. I carry two in the cylinder primarily cause I tend to find rattlers in pairs, plus I carry an additional 12 snake loads in a MTM plastic folding compact that holds 12 rounds in my pocket when I'm out in the desert.

Before Speer capsules my dad and I would make snake shot cartridges,, using the old waxed cardboard beer cases the Bud pony bottles came in for the disc inserts

Don't forget the s&w governor, you pay more, but get 6 shots. If I was in the market, that's what I would get.

I have a River Super Blackhawk 44 w/10.5" barrel. It does great w/shotshells. But I've never shot a snake with it.
