The model 28 came with the baugham ramped front sight with red insert. It could be ordered with the partridge target sights of the model 27.The model 27 had the checkered top strap and high gloss finish and came with the partridge sight(targetsight). The 28 had what was called a satin finish that simply meant It was not sent to be polished like the model 27.Partridge sights do not slide in and out of holsters like the ramped sights.
The model 28 was called the highway patrolman before 1957 when smith and wesson asighned model numbers to all there revolvers. It is still refered to as a highway patrolman by many people.
The 28-1 is one of the most sought after rare smith and wessons ever made. The dash two models are common and were the longest running series. The value of a dash two in a model 28 or 27 is less than previous models.
The prices on smith and wesson revolvers varies depending on where you live in the usa.The further west you go the higher the value do to supply and demand. The three inch barrel models are the most sought after and bring the highest prices.
