Congrats on your purchase of a Super Blackhawk-I have 1 exactly like it. In regards to self defense loads, I seriously doubt it matters which jacketed load you use, it's a .44mag-MORE than enough oomph regardless of which you choose. That's assuming you meant defense against humans. The only thing you have to worry about is gross overpenetration through walls. For defense against critters such as bears I'd choose some hardcast bullet loads.

For human defense, try to find the Pro-Load tactical lite load. 200 gr Gold dot loaded to 1000 fps. Very controllable and hits like a freight train w/o too much of an over penetration problem.

You can dry fire a Super Blackhawk from now on without ever hurting it.
