Default S&W Strain Screw

Is it generally advisable to use this screw to minimally lower the trigger pull?

Default Strain Screw

Never use the strain screw to lower the trigger pull. You will not get a consistant pull. The screw will tend to walk around. You need 3.75 # of mainspring tension to reliably touch off a magnum load, 3.5 # for a standard load.
A good action job will give a smooth, light feeling trigger with out compromising relability.

The strain screw is not an adjustment screw. It is supposed to be bottomed tightly in the frame.
