In .357 I would say get a S&W hands down if you have the choice, but if you get a .44 magnum for hunting or something, and that's all you're going to do with it,firing primarily single action, than the Ruger is better suited for that purpose and is tougher to handle hotter rounds.

I have a Ruger GP100, and I love it! I really like the .357 magnum round and the Ruger fits my hand well.

I think its impossible NOT to love a GP100 they are pretty hard to beat. I finally got me a beater 28-2 S&W so we'll see how it lasts!

Either one of those will serve you well. Get out to a range and test fire them, see what fits you before you start spending money.

Or you could just buy both!

I'm just glad that I don't have to make that decision. I have a number of smith&wessons and rugers and like them all. Try out both and choose what is best for you. Good luck.

I heart my Security Six. Have since bought one for both The Lovely Mrs and The Lovely Miss. Life is good.

I own a Ruger Blackhawk .357 and its an amazing gun. The gun is perfectly accurate at over 55 yrds with just the iron sights. I've never had a problem with it on the range, and im looking forward to taking it hunting next season. Its a gorgeous, reliable gun for much less than what S&W would charge. These are firearms we're talking about, not women's coach bags. Don't end up paying for the brand and not possessing something that you can count on, shot after shot after shot.

I have both Ruger and S&W wheel guns. Tough call but the Smiths favor my likes.

Don't over look a vintage (used) S&W. I got this Model 19-3 P&R for <$400. It can handle hot 357 loads and with cheap 38 target loads it has become my favorite range gun.

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!
