Does anyone know how old this revolver is? It is a 38 S&W Special ctg, serial # 53953?

According to this, it was introduced in 1977. I'm going to look at this some more, and see if the serial nails it down any more specifically.

Are you sure that's the serial and not the assembly number? The serial is on the butt. I ask because according to this other thread I'm reading, I cant find your serial. I know this other thread is a good starting point, but also that it is incomplete because I can't find my own serial on it either.
So... According to this, all I can figure is that the model was introduced in 1977, and that's the best I can do.

Please do check SN on the butt of the gun. The 64-3 DID start in '77, but seem to recall a letter prefix, like ACE, etc. You CAN email S&W giving them the SN, and they will give you the DOB.
