Default s&w model 12-2 airweight 4in question

I have a model 12-2 4inch barrel that I got back in the seventies which has a name of a gun shop marked on the underside of the barrel at the end. The stamp reads VALLEY GUN LA CA. I tried the s&w forum and got some info about import marks and it being made in 1971. I bought this from a wholesale store in Cincinnati, Ohio and recall that they also sold model 10 that I believe were police revolvers from China. They had a lanyard loop on the butt. I know this model 12-2 isn't worth that much but I have wondered about the gun shop marked on the barrel. There is a wealth of info on this forum and I would sure like to find out about the markings. Thanks in advance. Best regards

I think if a gun is exported from the US and then is imported back into the US the importer is required by Fed law to permanently mark the gun to identify the import entity.

I think you have one of these guns.

Thanks Cane You'r right on. I contacted a friend who bought a model 10 about the same time that I purchased this model 12. The name of the store was Swallen's in Cincinnati Ohio. His model 10 has the same mark under the barrel as mine. Thanks again for the info. Best regards
