Two questions, what ammo can I use in this revolver and wear can a find original grips for the gun? Thanks!

You can use any commercial .45 ACP in a Smith M1917, but stay away from the +P stuff. Also any commercial .45 Auto Rim, if you can find any.

As to grips, try Numrich (Gun Parts Corporation.)

Numrich is an "on again, off again" proposition in regards to in stock items. If no luck there, try gun shows, pawn shops, and second hand shops. I've found grips in old cookie jars or coffee cans at junk shops.

Does anyone know what size frame the S&W 1917 is? I would like to order newer grips but I don't know the frame size. Most research states its a "N" frame, is that correct?
