Default S&W Internal Lock

What does it do? I keep reading about it. Newer models have it. I even watched a video on how to remove it. But what is it for? Thanks.

It is so that the gun can be locked to prevent it being fired, without using an external locking mechanism.

Personally, I rank it right up there with the all time great inventions, like the inflatable anchor, Bank Vault Screen Windows, and dehydrated water.

OK, now to ask a stupid question. How is it activated? Internally or externally? Do you need a key?

It uses a key which S&W provides when you buy a new revolver. Thank the lawyers for this bit of assinine "safety".
