S&w 681

Thinking of trading my old Auto Ordnance 1911 for a .357 wheel gun. Guy offered me a 681 with a "trigger job". What's your thoughts on the deal? Haven't looked at it yet, thought I'd see what the response here was first.
The AO is unfair condition. Has some upgrades internally. I'm just more of a wheel gun guy. Only like autos for their capacity. So 7 RDS of .45 vs 6 rounds of .357 is an easy compromise for me.

This is a link to a gunsamerica.com sale. It was a 681 that sold for $395.

Which Auto Ordinance do you have? I see them listed new from $495 to over a $1000. How much did you pay for yours?

I meant to say the AO is in fair condition. Not unfair. Mine is an older West Hurley sn 22xxx
I got in in a trade, stock, and upgraded most everything. Only issue is the sights on it are kind of janky.
This is pre Kahr ownership. Not one of the newer models by any means

If you think you'll be happier with the Smith, that's what really matters.

I'm also a bit of a wheel gun guy.

I am some what of a S&W fanboy so I would say go for it.

Well, after a a few different offers (681, security six and a GP100) I went with a new in box (brand new) GP100. I would have preferred stainless but blue was the offer so I went with it. 4" barrel and the hideous rubber houge mono grips.
I was kind of itching for the security six. But the guy hemmed and hawed for a while, wanted to check the worth of the two. I know what a security six SHOULD be worth but I also know that they have not been manufactured since the late 80s (replaced by the GP) and so people tend to want more for them. I have always been a huge fan of the Redhawk series so I was a little more drawn to the GP anyway.

Thanks for the advice though. I'm off to cut some hedge for a new set of grips

Good luck with the GP. It seems like an excellent gun. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
