S&W 642 - Safe to Dry Fire without Snap Caps??
On Smith Wession website under FAQ section, it states it's safe to dry fire S&W revolvers, except 22 lr model.

Is it safe to dry fire (hundreds, thousands of times) without using snap caps? Will dry firing damage the revolver? Please share your experience.

Also, how about the S&W 686P? Safe to dry fire thousands of times? I intend to get a 686 down the road.

Can you? Yes....I'd still say snap caps would be a good idea

Snap caps are a good investment.

Although S&W's can be dry fired without, there is less chance of breaking something with caps.

I carried a 642 for quite awhile :)
IMO its always best to use snapcaps - Why take a chance
