Default S&W 29 Classic 5" 44mag

Ok just got a Classic 29 5" 44mag in the store today I bought it from a retiring captain. I can't find much info on it though. I found plenty of 6.5" and 4" barrel but no 5". Anybody got an idea about this piece?

Is it one of the new "Classics" with the lock above the cylinder release? If not, open the cylinder and inside the frame at the crane end will be a number. It will read 29 dash something or possibly just 29. That will help us out.

Okay, now I need the serial number. You can leave out the last two digits for privacy. I have the book right in front of me.

As best I can tell, Model 29-5's date between '91 through '94. I can't find that exact BKA prefix, but my best guess is it was probably manufactured around Aug. 1991 - Feb. 1992.

There's not a zillion of them, but they're not that rare either. Price is determined by what a buyer will pay. I hope this helps a bit.

If I'm wrong, would someone please correct me. Thanks.

The 5" is probably the most scarce of all the lengths. 3" would be a close 2nd. I have several N-Frames in 4" and 6". The 5" is supposed to be the best compromise between portability, accuracy, velocity and controllability.

I appreciate that info. I'm not sure if I will sell it or buy it myself, either way couldn't pass up the price.
