I was looking for a lighter alternative to my beloved gp 4 inch. I tried the sp101 but could never get a grip that worked with my hands. I had all but given up and it wouldn't have been a bad thing as the gp had spoiled me with its accuracy and soft shooting. Last resort I thought why not try a security six. it's 3 to 4 oz's heavier than a sp101 and 6 to 7 oz's lighter than the gp. I measured the cylinder and it is slimmer than the gp.
Upon my second range session and replacing the hammer spring I think I have found my go to gun. the security six absorbs recoil as well if not better then the gp. the trigger is almost as good as the gp and I haven't polished it yet. I am sure the trigger will end up being just as good if not better than the gp.

I am familiar with the square butt grip it reminds me of my redhawk 45lc and with pachmayr presentation grips is a super soft shooter. the OEM wood grips work well but the presentations fill my hands better.

I am convinced I have found my all round go to weapon. I am now thinking on trading or selling my 4 and 6 inch blued gp's to get a 6 inch security six.

Great gun that should have never been discontinued just updated.

these are a dream to shoot, and just plush with better grips and springs. Did you get the spring kit from wolff? but yes, all around, general purpose sidearm, and fun to boot. I fully agree, they never should have discontinued em, shoulda kept making these instead of making both gp100 and sp101, they had that with the service six and security six. sometimes finding certain accessories is a bit of a challenge.

I bought a 4" model back in the 80's and loved it. I'd still have that gun today if it hadn't been stolen during a burglary in the late 90's. I kept it in a small safe in my bedroom and the thief took the whole 250lb safe when he left! Got that gun, a Ruger P-85 and a coin collection. A few years later the P-85 was found (still have it) but I never saw the Security six or the coins again.

I used a reduced hammer spring from one of the gp wolf reduced spring kits I had. I am going to get a another wolf kit for the security six. there are still some grips on ebay and gunbroker I just keep searching. I am thinking it would be a good idea to pick up recplacement triggerand hammer parts via Numrich while they are still out there just in case.

sorry to here about the gun theft. I think one of my first guns was a p-85 built like a tank. i was able to put my hands on one of rugers new 9 mm sr compacts the other day. its a vast improvement felt great in the hand.

If you need a lead on a really good holster, safariland 5181 model, they have a size that is specific to the six series, if you can find one. ebay has been my freind for finding accessories...

I own both a Security Six and a GP-100. They are both fun to shoot but the Security Six has a better trigger.
