I like how everyone says to buy them all, cause I agree. Do it. But for serious, it sounds like the Blackhawk would be fine for hunting. DA is fun, but I'd think even with DA you'd still practice so you could hit the target with the first shot. DA might be nice if the deer shot back, though.
Also, recently bought a Blackhawk, .357 Magnum, 6.5" barrel. Love it.
I have both 5 ½” Redhawks in .44 and .45 and 5 ½” NMSBH and NMBH in .44 and .45. I like all of them, but they are different. The grip is much different and the cocking action of the single actions is much different. I suspect that if you get the opportunity to handle both, the solution to your problem will quickly become evident. Pick the one that feels best to you.
