Ruger BS
Help, please. I'm trying to find a replacement sight blade for an old model blackhawk. Ruger will not sell me anything for an OM unless I send it to them for a transfer bar install. I have a real problem with that kind of "customer support". I'm looking for an alternative. Already tried numrich, brownells, midway, no luck. I'll will considered an after market rear sight assy.

Ruger is offering you that as an attempt to cover themselves.
They are trying to make sure that their products are the safest possible. They will do it and fix the gun for you.
I would not have a problem with that. And shipping might be cheaper than buying new sights.

Hastings is the only other place I can think of for getting a sight soldered on.

If you reeeeally don't want their safety upgrade, have you considered having a friend with the same model, previously "upgraded" order the part for you? Maybe you could find somebody on the forum with the same model etc.?
I understand why you would resist their offer, but read this part:
Quote:
The value of the gun will not be
impaired, and we will return your original parts for collector’s purposes.

I'm wondering if their modifications would be easily reversable by the home enthusiast? Maybe you could let them fix the sight and install their safety parts, and then you can reverse anything you don't like.
Anybody know if this is a reversable mod?

With the transfer bar you can safely carry 6 instead of 5 and it is reversible. It is just parts. I do not know how adept you are so I cant say you can do it yourself. Get an FFL to ship it for you or the shipping will be expensive.

The safety update is only parts. There is no permanent modificatiuon to the gun. They will return the original parts to you to retain collector value.

I've had one Super Blackhawk converted and bought two used Rugers that were converted.
If you do send the gun to Ruger, remove your original parts, as they sometimes get "lost.'
If you must have a transfer bar Ruger, buy a new model and sell your old model. An unconverted old model or a New Model is preferable to a converted old model, believe me. What you get back is an action better suited for a gorilla's use.
As far as sights are concerned, any gunsmith usually will have a Ruger front sight of correct height. Rear sights can be had from Gary Reeder, Hamilton Bowen or Dave Clements.
This is Gary Reeder's rear sight on my .45 Blackhawk:
It is all steel, and is superior to the factory rear sight.

By the way, the abbreviation "RS" (rear sight), would be preferable to "BS."
