Both Billy The Kid and Wes Hardin both carried them. Fix the internals and you'll have a great gun to put out. Mine's in perfect working order, but I'm afraid to breath on it for fear of something breaking. Got it many years ago from someone in LE who it was past down to from a great grandfather with it's original unsigned scabbard holster.

I picked up an exc. old flap holster that was originally gotten through mail order like the example in Guns Of The Gunfighters. Hope you like looking at it.

Sorry for blurred photo. Stampings show 5,38,41,4 1/2. It fits Thund & Lightning
That's a real beauty. I absolutely love the look of them. I almost bought a Lightning at auction a while back, but was scared off by the reliability issues I kept reading about. Didn't want to tie up funds in a mantle piece just yet. One of these days I'll find a shooter though.

It's a shame they're so pretty lookin' yet too damn delicate to shoot. They're nice for collecting though. The next gun Colt came out with was the model 1878 DA. Mine is the Frontier 44-40. It isn't mint but is dead on and holds up better than the Thunderer. They're starting to jump up in price but at this time still affordable and a good investment. The birds head grip makes it appear to be a cross between the Thunderer and the front a SAA.

I've got one real similar to your gun except mine is a .38 and has a hell of a lot of wear on it. Is there anyway to find out how old the gun might be?
