Went to the range and had zero problems. Just a freak quality control problem I guess.
Question for ya: Did they swap it out with the same brand and load, or what? I'm assuming yes, but I've learned a lot about assuming....

Nope, I didn't even try anymore of their PMC (after all I had tried the 4 boxes I originally bought). They had two other brands in the store: Remington HP and S&B FMJ. They both worked great so I left with the S&B.

[QUOTE=Firenailer;1211300]. You can definitely feel the .357's hanging up after you shoot some .38's and have to be sure you get them in all the way. QUOTE]

It's not an ammo issue. The 38's are shorter, when you fire enough of them the residual buildup starts at the mouth of the cartridge. You have to clean the cylinder in order for the .357 shells to fit without forcing them. It has nothing to do with tolerences, ammo or any gun issue. It is 100% a cleaning issue.

Well in my case it was an ammo tolerance issue and not 100% a cleaning issue. Only one brand would not fit, myself, the RSO at the range, the armorer at the LGS confirmed. I had only shot the 38sp AFTER I tried the 357.

I know Mick. My response was to Firenailer. He described a classic example of what happens after shooting 38's in a 357 and then trying to insert the 357 completely.

It is a cleaning issue. I shoot a lot of PMC ammo from my rugers without issue. If you want cheap 357 ammo try PPU, it has 10.2 grains of powder. I have been very pleased with the performance of PPU 357 ammo.

I don't ever shoot 38 ammo in my 357 mags. I have a 9mm that is close to the 38 in performance. I bought a 357 to shoot 357 ammo.

But I also think they may be pushing out ammo so fast quality control might be slipping.
The OP had his gun checked, I took mine home and gave it a thorough cleaning, and still had the problem with only that particular box of .357. Another guy was having the same problem at the range on Thursday. (I didn't see what he was shooting).

There very well may be some bad ammo going around. Hey God Bless, I hope you don't get any, but some of us have.

I buy most of my ammo in bulk and put 1000 rounds of Magtech 158 Gr. SJSP through my GP since my last post without any problems. My new order of PMC .158 Gr SJSP came in and wouldn't rotate again.

I've been following similar threads about this on a couple of other websites and called Ruger. The Rep that I spoke to on the phone said that they were aware of the problem and sent me a UPS slip to send the gun in for repair.

9 or 10 days later it was returned with a kind of generic "Cylinder Repair" on the ticket. I took it out to the range on Saturday and put 150 rounds of Fiocchi, PMC and Magtech through it and she works smooth as silk.

Ruger really couldn't have been easier to work with on this and I'm a happy customer!

If anyone is having the binding problem with a newer GP, I'd give them a call.

I had that issue with my GP100 but a different brand of ammo. This ammo dropped in to my S&W model 13 but not my GP100. Cylinder would not close. I just ran it through my factory crimp and it was just fine after that.
