Please help identify this handgun

I'm brand new to this forum and I' know nothing about guns. However, my father, who is not web savvy, found this old revolver and planned on reconditioning it for a fun project, but wanted to make sure it wasn't some sort of valuable antique before he started messing with it.

Can anyone tell me what it is? Should he just have fun with it, or might there be some value in it?

Thank You

That was a "French Pin Fire". Look up pin fire ctgs. you will see why it has the cuts behind the chambers.

Going by the shape of the grip I'd guess it to be a Belgian copy of a Lefaucheux. If it is it will have ELG in an oval on it somewhere

Excellent choice for a project gun. Only downside is that if you do get it
all spiffed up, ammo is probably not available. Hmmmmm---anybody ever
seen an old pinfire converted to say--22LR? Now THERE would be a

Oh- if you want to SHOOT it, here is a company that makes reloading stuff for pinfires- H&C- Rechargement, coffrets et accessoires pour armes anciennes de collection

THAT one may be a good candidate for one of the battery powered rust removers that we talked about here. Anyone recall the thread?
