All things being relatively equal, they should be about the same. |

The size\shape of the metplat has more to do with penetration than anything, excepting momentum. Whitworth proved this befor the American Civil War. Veral Smith is an expert on this kind of thing. A well designed .357 bullet, of about 200 grains will penetrte pretty deep in about anything. the heavier,ei 270-300+ 44 bullet with a flat metplat will amaze you as to penetration. Both will leave a surprisingly wide wound channel, or permanent cavity, comparedto a hp r round nose, or even a keith style bullet. |

Assuming a best of both scenario, the 44 wins. __________________ What could have happened... did. |

Unfortuantely, it doesn't include a .357, but if you get a chance, watch the pistols episode of Lock N' Load with R. Lee Ermey. They fired a .38 S&W, a .45 ACP and a .44 magnum into ballistic gelatin and show the impact in super slow motion. These all occur at various places in the show, but at the last stage, they compare all three simultaneously. The videos of each are displayed one above the other, and the impacts are synchronized. __________________ "An armed society is a polite society." — Robert A. Heinlein

you guys will like this video on youtube. Guy is testing the 357, 45, and 40cal shooting into bars of soap. The soap bars are actually a good way of visually seeing penetration and energy transfer.

It all depends on what you are penetrating, and what bullet you choose.
A hard lead, or full metal jacketed bullet will penetrate deeper that a soft or hollow point bullet. Heavy bullets will penetrate deepeer than light ones.
It all depends on bullet selection and the media you're trying to penetrate.

From what I have read they have similar penetration, but the .44 mag has more devastation from the penetration. |

I thought the effect of the .44 mag into the gel was pretty cool. __________________ The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
