Shoot the heck out of it........find a nice handload, down a bit from full-power.

Back in the mid 80's I kept track(primer bxs thrown in a shoebx)of the rounds through one of ours.Shot right at 15K rounds in one Summer. It was a lite-midlevel cast load.Gun never missed a beat.Even though we have a bunch of Smiths, the Pythons always are a little more fun to shoot.

Have fun with your new snake!Shopnut

I probably wouldnt shoot the heck out of it, not in that condition. I'd shoot it occasionally, but not that. Find one with some cosmetic wear later on down the road and shoot the heck out of THAT one. Keep that one taken care of and go easy on the nickel. You've got a dandy there. I've got a couple in Royal Blue that are 99.9% and I shot them both a handful of times just to say I did. But I don't dare do any more for fear of putting a turn line on the cylinders.

Guns are like trucks, meant to be used not looked at! Shoot it! Why spend all that $ to let it sit in a safe? IMO that would be a waste.

Not entirely true. There comes a point when it's wiser to keep your classic gun nice and buy a well worn gun if you want something to shoot. Finding a nice Python in excellent condition with box will get harder and harder to find. Especially when people turn theirs into shooters. The ones who kept theirs nice will sure be smiling.

My old man used to collect toy tractors when he was little. While all his buddies played with theirs in the dirt and mud, he kept his inside and kept the boxes. Still has a pristine collection of 50 year old toy tractors with original boxes. I think you can see where I'm going with this.

To each their own, but I promise you I'll keep my Pythons oiled up and in the safe along with their boxes. Plenty of other common guns that I can enjoy shooting just as much.

Some guns are for shooting, but some are NOT! Some canvas is used for drop cloths when I paint my bathroom and some is used to hold the oil paints of Rembrandt, the Renaissance master.

Buy a Smith&Wesson 686 to shoot, but this Python appears to be art. Which is why I'll probably never have the free cash to buy one. Every gun I buy has to be a shooter right now.

While I do respect your opinions and if you wanna hold a gun as sort of "savings account" more power to ya! But for me guns are meant to be used. But regardless that is a beautiful gun!
