I have a little Taurus 38 special+p snub I carry in the car!! Just wondering if that's adequate protection if I really need to defend! I realize you get what you pay for!! But money has to be part of my choice!!
Back to the 44 mag, I can shoot 44special rounds in that gun, correct? If so, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the 44mag round vs the 44special?? Thanks for the input guys!! I'm just wanting to learn, I'm new to most of the specifics on quality of guns!! But I love that 44 Smith

I bought the Ruger P95 semi-auto!! Still going to use the 38 as everyday carry!! The New Ruger stays in the car! And the 44 mag stays at home- I think I have it covered!

quite correct that you can shoot 44 spl. out of the pistol. advantages of the Magnum over the Special is huge increase in power. disadvantages, huge recoil in comparison.

i do shoot quite a bit of 44 Mag. loads, but shoot more 44 spl loads. i shoot enough magnum loads to stay accustomed to the hotter loads so as not to be suprised by the difference in recoil difference.

Default A Colt Detective Special

A used Colt Detective Special runs about $400-450. 6 shots, 2" barrel, all steel, can take limited use of +P and fractionally larger than a SW J-frame. Get an early model with the full grip frame - slightly heavier and the craftsmanship is much better than the later models. Oh, the trigger pull is also better than a J-Frame (have both and will take the old 1960-ish Colt first - it is my EDC). The Colt will fit in many J-Frame holsters and those for a Ruger SP101. There are still lots of new and used holsters that fit and this is a great ankle gun too.

Yes it is! I picked one up several years ago...

Took me awhile to find the one I wanted:

3"
Non fluted cylinder
Lanyard ring

I've CCW'd mine but it takes some serious wardrobe considerations.

I'd highly suggest getting .44 Specials for any extended target practice.

I put 18 rounds through mine the day I bought it and had a sore hand for a week.

But I still love that gun and OC it while afield hunting or fishing.

Tack

Going to the range today to shoot my 629!! Two questions what ammo to use for Range?? I want to feel the difference in the 44special round and the 44 mag! I bought Winchester 240g HP magnum shells when I bought the gun! So I plan to shoot maybe 18 rounds off of the 44 mag load!! What is a good 44 special load to range shoot with!! And also is range rental ear muffs and plugs adequate ear protection??
