Just picked up a SW 642!
I've always wanted one of these, and the local Fin, Feather and Fur had a sale, so I couldn't resist. It's got the stupid "lock" on it, but other than that I have no complaints. Very pocket-able and lightweight. I still need to find a good holster for it, lately I've just stuck it in my waistband or in a pocket.
(As a side note, I work part-time (off duty LEO gig) at a women's homeless shelter. We have one of those big walk-through metal detectors at the door. Surprisingly, the 642 doesn't set it off  I've heard they can be calibrated based on the amount of metal they detect, so I guess I'll have to talk to the bosses there.)
Anyway, what's a good iwb holster for ccw? Anyone find an ankle holster they actually like? (I don't like them, mostly for the fact that I doubt I'd be able to draw from it quickly.)
Also, can I dry fire this without damage or should I get some snap caps? I never understood how dry firing can damage the weapon, so if someone could enlighten me I'd appreciate it.
So far I've fed it some Federal 110 gr hydrashock (low recoil) and PMC 132 gr FMJs. The recoil with both types has been manageable, and for what I'll be using it for (BUG) it fits the bill.
Congrats on the new revolver. You can dry fire it without problems. As far as an IWB holster, many folks swear by the Milt Sparks "Summer Special" and the Crossbreed "Super Tuck".
I have one of these, it's a great little summer carry pistol. Never considered a ankle holster, my arms are too short to reach it quick enough if I need it. I CC in a Don Hume IWB holster (lefty), I tried a pocket holster but didn't like it. I've heard a lot of good concerning the supper tuck. You can dry fire it, I tend to use snap caps in all my pistols. I did change out the grips to get more hand on the pistol and it helped my grouping a great deal, gave up some of the compact size (not all that much) to make it happen. I carry Hornady Critical Defense +P 110 gr, practice with what ever is on sale but alway finish practice with one full wheel of my carry ammo. Lastly if this doesn't set off the metal dector when loaded or unloaded it is time to reset the detectors!
