Judge .410 shells won't slide in all the way...

my dad bought a used (few months old) Taurus Judge Polymer from a friend of mine that only put about 100-200 rounds through it. today we shot it for the first time since he owned it. shot fine first couple of rounds, when we opened a new box of the .410 shells, started loading up, all but one shell fit normal. the one that didn't fit, it would have had to be forced into the cylinder (which we didn't force it), we tried another shell and same thing would not go in smoothly without forcing it. took all the shells out and put new ones in and now only a few fit in and a few wont slide in with ease.

could this be a defective box of ammo or is something up with the cylinder? no problems like this with the .45; shoots fine btw.

OK- I will ask the question- is the revolver chambered for the length of shell found in your new box? 2.5 inch or 3 inch?

Also have you cleaned the chambers ?

Some Judges were 2 1/2" chambers. Make sure you are using the correct length shot shells.

These can suffer the same condition .357 revolvers do when a bunch of .38 Specials are shot in them. Fouling from the shorter ammo (.45 Colt) will build up preventing the longer ammo (any .410 shotshell) from chambering.

Clean the charging holes THOROUGHLY and try again

Yup dirty chambers was my best guess too. Our guns aren't happy if they aren't clean!

My wife also experienced this while shooting a .22 revolver. She was shooting the primer-only "super quiet" rounds. After about 90 rounds the cylinder started locking up as she was loading. I found some resistance for the last 1/16" and she had to firmly seat each shell as they went in for the last couple of loads.
