Iver Johnson's ID
I have an Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works .32 with a serial number on the bottom of the trigger guard of 76182. All of the info I have found on the net keeps claiming the serial is found on the top of the barrel. Only the manufacturer's name is on the top of the barrel. On the handle bottom it reads PAT Aug 25, 96 and Pats Pending. Please provide me with info on this, value, age, etc. Thanks!!!!!

SN is never on the barrel- since the frame (receiver) is legally THE GUN- and the barrel is not. If you remove the grips, you may find SN on side of handle under there, as well as trigger guard. Condition= value- and no way to tell condition with pics and description. MOST of the IJ's were utilitarian grade arms, and going price today may be $50-$150, with exceptions. Mr. Bill Goforth posts on, and PUBLIC forum- and is literally the gent that wrote the book on these. Note of caution- SOME of the 32s and 38s date from the black powder era, and should not be fired with modern ammo. May not fail catastrophically, but will GREATLY accelaerate wear of the weapon.
