Thanks dukech1,
My thumb is back in business. I'm waiting for my 500 grips to arrive so I can go for round two with this beast...

I've only shot a .44 mag once and it was fun, but not something I would do repeatedly...last night on "Lock n' Load", R.Lee Ermie demonstrated the effectiveness of 3 loads in ballistics gel: the old .38 Colt, the .45 ACP (his personal favorite), and the .44 mag. The .45 passed completely through the gel in a beautiful straight line, whereas the .38 Colt took a nose dive 3/4 of the way through (and produced a smaller cavity). The .44 Mag produced an explosive shock wave and knocked the block of ballistics gel end-over-end and off the table! Later in the show he fired the S&W .500 and the shock wave passing through his arm was definitive proof that a two-hand hold is an absolute necessity when shooting the .500.

You put 30 rounds through a 329, without the 500 grips?? You must be a glutton for punishment.
I have a 4 3/4" FA 454 Casull and a S&W 500, 4", and the 329 kicks harder than either of them.
The first time I fired my 329, it was with magnum loads. I got about 12 shots through it and called it a day. I immediately ordered the 500 grips, they do help quite a bit, but when you shoot it your still gonna say wow I got a tiger by the tail!

Alright boys, riddle me this, is it because you guys like big guns, big bangs and target destruction, OR are you guys just gluttons for punishment, grips or not? Am I correct in thinking that you have these big boys ported too?

The only one that's ported is the 500, it comes that way from the factory.
I like the big handguns because I hunt with them, hike where there's big toothy critters and they are just plain fun.

Nice Wheelie Mark!
After reading this thread, I had to chime in-I'm kind of a Sissie-My .44Rem. Mag is a Ruger Super RedHawk, in 9 1/2" bbl. The SOB weighs a ton+I have to bring a Gun toter with me to carry it. Good side-recoil is not too bad!!

Let me clarify it.... I shot 50 rounds of .44 Specials. I only shot 4 rounds of .44 Magnums.
I did order the 500 grips, but thet aren't here yet. Today I am getting a pair of gel filled shooting gloves, as my padded ones don't cut with this gun.

I saw that show too. It was interesting but not totally factual regarding the .44 Magnum. He showed a Smith & Wesson 629 and stated that S&W invented it. Everyone knows Elmer Keith was the creator, Ruger produced the very first production .44 Magnum revolver, and Remington made the ammo. I may also note that Dick Casull had already created the 454 Casull before Elmer Keith got the .44 Magnum off the ground.
You may have noticed, that the .44 Magunm nearly knocked Lee Ermy off his chair.
