Was cleaning out my gun safe so would be lite enough I could move it and found my old high standard double nine that I hadn't shot in years so I decided to go shoot it and now I remember why I stopped shooting it. About half the time the hammer won't lock and goes half way forward not far enough to fire but to the point when I pull the trigger to get the hammer back down it acts lie the hammer is down and rotates to next shot skipping the one it went to in the cock when it kicks forward. Took it to a gun smith years ago and he couldn't figure it out has anyone ever worked one one of these? At a loss as to what it could be.

It seems like there is a part worn or broken inside, and dropping the hammer like that can mark up the cylinder and create addition problems there, also.

The hammer has 2 notches- full cock and half cock that are engaged by the sear. the full cock notch is broken, worn or crudded up and the sear is not engaging, but catching on the second notch.

Have a smith pull it down and check. Taking these apart is a lot easier than putting the back together due to the frame,

I didn't realize they made 2 different double nines, but when you said it was suppose to have a half cock which mine never has I looked a little closer and mine is the sentinel r-102. I got it used and it never had half cock was it suppose to have one and was already broke when I got it?

Couldn't find diagram of the r-102 but the r-107 looks about the same as mine

Looks like yours does not have a separate sear. So it is either the hammer or trigger (or both) that are causing your problem. Could be wear, broken part, or debris.
