Default Help!

I recently purchased a webley mk IV. It's in .38 S&W. I want to buy some ammo so I can make sure it still fires. What kind should I get? I know most older guns can't stand the pressure of modern ammunition. Is there a special kind that I would need to buy for my webley?

You need to get the 38 s+w ammo not the 38 special. The 38 s+w case length and OAL is shorter than the 38 special. It's pressure is lower for the hinged and small revolvers manufactured for the round. With any used firearm I have purchased, if there is any question of safety, it is checked by a good gunsmith.

Pics and range report needed when you get that up and going!!

I notice your avatar. I found a Webley (not sure of the model) in Iraq chambered in .455. I'd still be walking funny from smuggling that joker home if I'd realized then how badly I want one.

I figured Webley would weigh in here.

ACTUALLY- that IS a modern handgun- compared to stuff made in the 1890's. It was made to shoot a 200 grain .38 S&W. Any of the standard .38 S&W loads will do OK. You are unlikely to find 200 grain loads. Yours was made for smokeless powder.

As he said up there- .38 S&W is NOT .38 Special. .38 Special is longer and skinnier.
